PROJECTS UNDER WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, MANIPUR
A. IRRIGATION SECTOR:-
I. COMPLETED IRRIGATION PROJECTS:
1. Loktak Lift Irrigation Project: - The first Major & Medium Irrigation Project in the state of Manipur was Loktak Lift Irrigation Project having a revised Culturable command Area of 12600 Ha and it was started during 1972 at Ningthoukhong of Bishnupur District. The project was completed in the year 1989 with a completion cost Rs 28.79 Cr.
2. Khoupum Dam Project: - Khoupum Dam Project having a Culturable Command Area of 700 Ha was started during 1974 at Khoupum under Nungba Sub-Division of Noney District. The project was completed in the year 1980 with a completion cost Rs. 3.05 Cr.
3. Imphal Barrage Project: - Imphal Barrage Project having a Culturable command Area of 4000 Ha was also started during 1974 at samurou of Imphal West District. The project was completed in the year 1995 with a completion cost Rs. 9.17 Cr
4. Singda Multipurpose Project: - Singda Multipurpose Project having a revised Culturable command Area of 2428 Ha was also started during 1974 at Singda of Kangpokpi District. The project was completed in the year 1980 with a completion cost Rs 34.30 Cr. the Singda Multipurpose Project has been supplying 4.00 Million gallons per day of raw water to the State PHED since its completion.
5. Sekmai Barrage Project: - Sekmai Barrage Project having a revised Culturable command at Keirak of Kakching District. The project was completed in the year 1983 with a completion cost Rs 7..70 Cr.
6. Khuga Multipurpose Project: - The Khuga Multipurpose Project was started in the year 1980 to harness the flow of Khuga River to create Irrigation potential of 14.760 Ha., 5MGD of water supply and 1.50MW of power generation. the project was commissioned on 12th November. 2010 with a partial irrigation potential of 10.000 Ha and the state PHED has been drawing an average of 0.83 MGD for supplying drinking water. The completion cost of the project is Rs> 433.99 Cr.
7. Dolaithabi Barrage project: - Dolaithabi Barrage project was approved by the Planning commission in June 1992 and is planned to divert the flow of the Iril river to create an irrigation potential of 7,545 Ha. to irrigate 5500 Ha. of CCA in the Imphal East District of Manipur. The project was commissioned on 4th Jan. 2019 with a completion cost Rs. 508.48 Cr.
II ONGOING IRRIGATION PROJECTS:
1. Thoubal Multipurpose Project: - Thoubal Multipurpose Project was approved by the Planning Commission in 1980 for Rs 47.25 Cr. and is planned to harness the perennial water of Thoubal river to create 35.160 Ha. of annual irrigation, to provide 10 MGD of drinking water and to generate 7.50 MW of hydropower. The latest approved Revised cost of the project is Rs 2107.45 Cr. The project is targeted for completion by June, 2024 in all respects.
III. UPCOMING IRRIGATION PROJECTS
The Department is continuing investigation works for taking up new projects under State Plan as well as with funding of Ministry of Jalshakti, Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR, NEC, etc. for expansion of irrigation benefits from natural water resources. The following 4(four) new projects are planned to be taken up.

B. FLOOD CONTROL SECTOR:
The Water Resources Department apart from the emergency flood fighting has been planning to tackle the problems of flood protection work from time to time in a comprehensive manner. The Department has initiated taking up several schemes with funding from Central Assistance.
For the mitigation of flood and also to provide other allied benefits from the existing waterbodies, flood control sector is also taking up improvement of the existing waterbodies. So far, schemes on 4 (four) waterbodies viz 1) Lamphelpat, 2) Waithoupat 3) IrongNallah (upper) and 4) IrongNallah (lower) has been implemented.
The National Hydrology Project initiated by the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India as a Central Sector Scheme with the help of World Back was launched in May 2017. The project is being implemented by the Water Department in Manipur. A State Water Informatics Centre of Manipur has set up to act as a data completion by September 2025.
Also, a new phase of the project as a continuation of the existing project called Advance National Hydrology Project is in pipeline
